  1. Launch the CaseScan Investigations Software.
  2. Navigate to the main panel.
  3. Click on the prominent "Create New Case" button to begin.

Step 2: Input Basic Case Details

  1. Case Name:

    • Enter a unique identifier for the case.
    • Acceptable characters include letters, numbers, and special characters.
    • Ensure the name does not begin with a special character or space.
  2. Evidence Name:

    • Provide a clear and concise name for the evidence related to this case.
    • Ensure the name does not begin with a special character or space.

Step 3: Select the Suspect’s Operating System (BETA)

  1. Use the dropdown menu to choose between:
    • iOS
    • Android
  2. This step helps configure the software for optimal analysis based on the suspect’s mobile device.

Notes
  1. Triaging Android devices is limited to public libraries

Step 4: Configure Backup Location

  1. Click on the backup location field to select where forensic data will be saved.
  2. Recommendation:
    • Save backups to a local folder on your computer instead of an external USB or network drive to reduce scan times.

Step 5: Enable Optional Features

  1. Face Recognition:

    • Toggle this option to enable facial detection during the scan.
  2. Enhanced Accuracy Mode:

    • Activates additional AI models for improved CSAM detection precision.
Notes This option may cause a decrease in scan speed but helps reduce false positives in "Underwear" and "Nude" filters.

Step 6: Review and Important Notes

  1. Ensure all data is correctly entered.
  2. Refer to the notes:
    • VIC Database Requirements:
      • To view hash matches, the VIC file must be uploaded before the scan.
      • Upload the VIC database using the "Upload VIC Database (V2.0)" button in the top-right corner.
      • Note that uploading a new version of the VIC file will not apply retroactively.
    • Backup Recommendations:
      • Save backups locally to ensure faster access and reduced scan times.
    • External Drives:
      • Scanning to an external disk may significantly increase processing time based on hardware quality.

Step 7: Finalize and Start the Scan

  1. Click the "Create Case" button to proceed and follow the instructions in the next guide for detailed guidance on the scanning process.
