How to Create a New Case for Images investigation case in CaseScan
Step 1: Access the CaseScan Interface
- Log in to the CaseScan system.
- Navigate to the main dashboard where you see "Open Cases."
Step 2: Start a New Case
- Click on the “Create New Case” button. This will open a new dialog box where you can input details for the new case.

Step 3: Input Case Details
- Case Name: Enter a name for the case. This can include numbers, letters, and special characters, but it should not begin with a special character or space.
- Select Input: For image cases, you need to specify the directory containing the photos and videos you wish to analyze. Click on the folder icon next to "Case Data Input Directory (photos & video)" to browse and select the appropriate directory.

Step 4: Specify Output Directory
- Select Output: Click on the folder icon next to "Case Data Output Directory" to specify where you want the results (like video frames, detected files, etc.) to be stored.
Step 5: Configure Case Settings
- Face Recognition: Toggle this option if you want the system to perform face recognition on the images.
- Enhanced Accuracy Mode: Check this box if you want to deploy additional AI models to improve CSAM detection precision. Note that this option might slow down the scan speed.
- Physical Recovery of Deleted Files: Check this if you want the system to attempt recovery of deleted files from physical drives. This is suitable only when inspecting physical disks and can be time-consuming.
Step 6: Create the Case
- After filling in all the necessary details and adjusting settings according to your needs, click on the "Create Case" button to initiate the case.

Additional Notes:
- Make sure the VIC file is uploaded before starting the scan if you need to view hash matches.
- The VIC database can be uploaded via the button on the top right corner of the main dashboard.
Step 7: Monitoring and Managing the Case
- After creating the case, you can monitor its progress in the "Open Cases" section of the dashboard.
- You will see updates on scan start and end times, modifications, and the count of total images and videos processed.
